My Goals for 2010

I don’t normally make any sort of New Year’s Resolution. It has just never been something that I have done. I’m not sure why exactly. 2009 was a year of new beginnings. I plan to make 2010 a year that builds upon what I’ve done and make it even better than 2009. So here are my 5 goals for the year ahead:

Finish all Current Mashups/Edits
There are a few mashups and edits that I started, but never finished. My goal is to finish every unfinished mashup/edit that is just sitting on my computer. Some of them are not tracks that I would usually play or listen to, so it should be a treat to mix with once I finish them.

Create at least 4 Episodes for theDJPodcast.com
I planned to do a lot more with theDJPodcast in 2009. Unfortunately, it was on the bottom of the priority list when school and life got hectic. The site will never grow if I don’t put time into working on it. Completing 4 episodes is a goal that I plan to meet early in the year and will hopefully create at least 8 episodes by the end of the year.

Complete a guestmix
It would be super-awesome to have one of my mixes played on another DJs radio show or podcast. This is something that I have not pursued before, but plan to work towards this year.

Listen to more online radio
It’s ridiculous how many great online radio stations there are. Listening to more online radio, and exploring more genres of music, will not only allow me to broaden my music horizon, but also let me interact with other fans of EDM who are listening as well.

Play a party…even just for friends
If I ever want to play in front of a crowd, I’m going to have to have some experience playing for other people. I need to take the initiative on this one. It’s not going to be handed to me on a silver platter.

3 New Episodes of theDJPodcast Online

I recently finished three episode of theDJPodcast and sent them over to the guys at Winksound. They are now online and look fantastic with some great animated graphics. Head over to theDJPodcast.com and check them out. Each episode goes over a different aspect of Serato Scratch Live. Support the show by becoming a fan on Facebook. The Facebook Fan Page only needs a few more fans before I can get it a custom vanity URL.

September has come and gone. October has arrived. The past month was exciting. I moved into an apartment and have my DJ gear set up again. I’ve made a few mixes already. One of which will hopefully be played at a wedding. I’ve also done a few episodes of my podcast, EMFTM, and written a couple of articles for theDJPodcast. This month I hope to work on a new collaboration with the guys over at Winksound. Expect a few more mixes and how-to videos this month.

July has come and gone. August is here and it is going to be full of exciting new developments. Before I get into what those are, I would like to give a brief explanation why there have been such large gaps of time between mixes and other videos. In the summer of 2007 I moved across the country and that fall I started my first year of college. Although I was not very far from home I just didn’t have the time to mix until the summer came around. This summer I have been away from home (until now) and have therefore been unable to mix or make many videos. Thankfully, the stop-and-go mixing times are over. I’ll be at home for one month and then move into an apartment with a few friends in September. This will allow me to not have to stop and get out of practice like before. So expect a constant stream of videos on Youtube, tweets on Twitter, and other behind-the-scenes footage and pics on Facebook & Myspace.

I want to focus more on improving The DJ Podcast. These improvements will include more regular episode frequency and improved visual quality. If you have any suggestions for episodes or things you would like me to cover, do not hesitate to contact me.

Mixes will also be posted more frequently. I will post videos on Youtube each week and every other week an episode of my new mix podcast will be available to download. Shorter mixes will also be available on Myspace and Facebook. In addition to allowing you to download the bi-weekly podcast, I will be streaming some of my mixes live on Ustream as I record them. There is no set schedule for streaming, so be sure to follow me on Twitter for live streaming events.

I have collected a lot of great tracks over the last 8 months that I have not been able to mix. I hope that you bear with me as I try to streamline a few processes so that I can deliver better content to you more frequently.
